During the last sixty years, neuromuscular therapy (NMT) has emerged as a significant methodology for assessing, treating and preventing soft tissue injuries and chronic pain. NMT, a series of treatment protocols based on the practitioner’s skill, anatomy knowledge and precise palpatory application, has found its home, not only in the treatment rooms of massage therapy, but also in occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, dentistry, chiropractic, osteopathic and physical medicine clinics worldwide.

Judith (Walker) Delany, LMT
Judith (Walker) DeLany, LMT, is the founder and director of the International Academy of Neuromuscular Therapies, a certifying body that sets standards for the training of healthcare professionals in the use of Neuromuscular Therapy. She’s an associate editor of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, has written manuals and articles on pain management, and was a contributing author to Dr. Leon Chaitow’s book Modern Neuromuscular Techniques. Mrs. DeLany continues to write with Dr. Chaitow as well as teach seminars in Neuromuscular Therapy throughout the country.

Trigger Point disorders, (muscle knots are described as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle) Compression of the trigger point may elicit local tenderness referred pain or local twitch response.
